Pick a brew method or enter a custom ratio, choose your target volume, and we'll return the exact coffee dose in grams and water in millilitres.
Coffee-to-water ratios are expressed as 1 : N, meaning 1 gram of ground coffee per N grams of water. Because 1 ml of water weighs approximately 1 gram, we can treat the two interchangeably at home. The formula is simply coffee (g) = water (g) ÷ N. Different brew methods have different sweet spots — pour-over tends to sit around 1:15 to 1:17, immersion tends to sit a little higher, and cold brew is more concentrated because it's diluted later.
1:16 is a safe, widely recommended starting point. Move toward 1:15 for a stronger cup or 1:17 for a lighter one.
At room temperature the difference is negligible — 1 ml ≈ 1 g. If you have a scale, weigh water in grams for maximum precision.
Darker roasts are more soluble, so many baristas dose slightly less (e.g. 1:17) to avoid over-extraction bitterness.
Weakness usually comes from under-extraction (grind too coarse, water too cool, or brew too short) rather than the ratio itself. Adjust grind first.
